World Food Day

16th October 2020

On the 16th October 2020 we celebrate World Food Day to recognize the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945. With over 2 billion people unable to access basic commodities such as safe, nutritious and sufficient food, Sustainable Development Goal 2, one of 17 interlinked goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all" aims to achieve zero hunger by 2030. However, particularly in light of COVID-19’s effects on the food and agricultural sector, the world is not on track to achieve this goal. To support efforts towards promoting worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure healthy diets for all, the Editor of BMC Public Health has curated a series of related content published in the journal.
