The negative correlation between peak year t max and IDV in a set of 25 countries (ρ=−0.524, p=0.008) is consistent with slower change in collectivistic societies: the peak year in tobacco consumption tends to occur later in collectivistic societies and earlier in individualistic societies. The seven OECD countries considered for the mathematical model are indicated by dots (ρ=−0.76, p=0.047), and the remaining 18 countries are indicated by asterisks.
