  1. For the mean field model, the initial conditions were chosen to be compatible with those of the 1-age class model - see Appendix and Table 3. The initial number of strain-1 and strain-2 infections (introduced at times t = 0 and T*, respectively) in a population of size N =10,000, is 67 and 12, respectively.
